The British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) has announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind online benchmark platform where members can submit and instantly access accident data.

As well as being able to anonymously add accident figures quickly and easily, members can also find detailed reports and graphs to download as PDFs, providing an invaluable management tool for those overseeing health & safety. The reports highlight key issues by accident type and provide a comparison with others in the same sector.

Simon Brentnall, head of health & safety at BFFF, says: “Over the last 16 years we have been supporting our members by collating their accident data with the aim of reducing injuries within the industry. This unique tool enables our members to benchmark themselves against each other. Whether food producers, wholesalers or logistics service providers, the data gives those managing health & safety a gauge of how well they are doing and where improvements can be made.”

During the last few months the BFFF has been working with their team of developers to create this more efficient and accurate way to collate, process and report back on industry accident data. Simon describes it as a massive step forward for the federation and an essential benefit for members.

He added: “In managing health & safety it is important to monitor both proactive (leading) and reactive (lagging) indicators to establish how well your organisation doing; it is crucial that these comparisons are made. What makes this data so unique is that it relates directly to our industry being food production, storage and transportation. Data which is currently available in the public domain relates to the whole of manufacturing, storage and transport industries, and is therefore somewhat diluted.”

With the aim of reducing the number of accidents, members can book a call with Simon Brentnall and his team to understand the full potential of this new online platform and be able to submit their data for 2020. Members can access the new system now on the BFFF website.
